What Is Algorithmic Disgorgement?

Algorithmic Disgorgement — a regulatory remedy requiring an organisation to delete models and algorithms built using improperly obtained data.

Also called model deletion, this is a remedy the US Federal Trade Commission has imposed: a company that trained AI on data it should not have collected can be ordered to destroy not just the data but the models derived from it. It makes the stakes of data misuse much higher, because the value created from the data can be clawed back.
